We drove up to Yakima last weekend to take pictures of a lovely and lively family! They have two kids, a little girl and a toddler boy. They're expecting another boy any day now!

Here they are! Aren't they cute! It's so hard to take a picture and have them all look at you but I tell ya, my Sully pez dispenser on my camera works every time!

There were TONS of moments like these! Too fun!

Three little girls. Two of them, Kendall & Karis, sisters. Two of them, Kayla & Kendall best friends. We met at a little park smack dab in the middle of parking lots and business offices. But there were pretty waterfalls, nice trees and cute ducks & geese!! It was so fun!! Here are my favorite three from the session.

An adorable young family with a spunky little guy and sweet 2 month old girl. I met them at a nearby park and hit it off with the momma from the start. Don't you just love it when that happens?! The daddy is in the military and just came back from 8 month tour of duty in Iraq. He leaves again for another 8 months. Talking about it brings tears to my eyes yet again. Oh what these men, women and families do for our country. Never forget to thank a soldier and his or her family. They are brave brave people.

You might remember this family from Fall of last year. I had fun taking pictures of the girls in pettiskirts at the park. They picked flowers, ran around the park with me, so so very sweet personalities.

We've known this family for quite sometime and they are so wonderful. I had the great opportunity to have a photo session with them at the downtown waterfront park amidst cherry blossom trees!

I met these three boys and their mom and dad through a family friend. They were visiting from sunny California. They are the sweetest and loved my little girls. All these shots were taken in the rain. Good times. :)

The middle one, Nolan, Malia just adored him because he gave the best piggy-back rides.

The youngest, Cormick, loved to play with Jenna. I just love watching older kids interact with my tiny ones.

Little Gwen is 3 months old at this session and her big brother is close to turning 4 years old. I took Gwen's newborn pictures. Remember? Well, Gwen was once again a complete sweetheart and Jeff was a great big helper and model during the photo shoot. :)

One of the reasons why I love the Pacific Northwest is the lovely spring rain. It was not a surprise to do a session right out there in the cool March sprinkle! The Kaufman's were a joy to work with. They have three adorable girls. Here are some from the fun session!

Giving back - part 1

I'm officially a member of Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep. An organization of photographers that donate their time and talent to capture an early life lost. As many of you know, I lost a child at 18 weeks gestation and to this day regret that I didn't take enough pictures while I was pregnant with him and after I delivered him. This is just my small attempt at giving back and helping those who have lost a little one... to give them a little bit of memory to keep and to help them heal.

PHOTOGRAPHY SESSION FEE

Maternity, babies, children, family, couples and teens: $100

Includes:
• Custom photography experience on location within the Portland Metro area. Average length 1-2 hours.
• For up to 4 people. $10 per additional person.
• Artistic editing of approx. 20-30 images in digital darkroom.
• 10 days after the session, an online gallery will be available to view photographs at your convenience for two weeks.
• Pre-consultation with the photographer via email or phone.

Our life has been full of ups and downs, laughter and tears. My husband, Jerry, is in the military reserves and was deployed once during Operation Enduring Freedom. The separation was so hard on us. My husband and I battled infertility and were finally blessed with children, Malia and Jenna, using the miracle science that is IVF. We've experienced child loss during our first pregnancy. A baby boy, 20 weeks gestation, who we named Johnathan Francis. I recently lost my young mother, Lulu, to gastric cancer. She fought it for two courageous years. The maternity newborn package includes two portrait sessions; your maternity session (scheduled during the last trimester of pregnancy) as well as your newborn session (scheduled before your new baby is 3 weeks of age). Maternity sessions generally last up to two hours and may include your spouse/partner and children. The newborn session is quite extensive, often lasting 3 hours to allow plenty of time for eating, changing, and cuddling between photographs. The first year of your baby's life will bring wonderful growth and changes that you will want to remember and treasure forever. What to wear

Professional portraiture is about the people in the image - so we always recommend clothing without distracting numbers, letters, or logos. Gap is a great store - but when you see those three letters in a large size print on someone's chest, they tend to turn a picture into a billboard rather than a beautiful portrait of a unique individual. Similarly, muted patterns are fine but very bright patterns tend to make pictures very busy and fight with the natural surroundings. For this reason, we also recommend clothing in natural colors - brown, red, green, and blue are all good choices.

Long sleeved shirts are always recommended for adults. Jeans bring beautiful blues into the picture and are always a good choice. Dresses, shorts, and skirts are all fine for children. As long as the clothing is not wrinkly or faded, it will look great in pictures!

Bringing a few changes of outfits will give you great variety in your pictures. Often, you'd be surprised at how one outfit really looks better than other when you see it in print.

For family pictures, nothing is better than coordinated clothing in the same shade. Having everyone wear jeans and shirts or dresses of the same color really shows the unity and intimacy of that family. And it makes for beautiful portraiture with the focus on the people rather than the clothing.

About the artist

maricar lianne lujan fernandez

She was born in the Philippines and grew up in Guam. The daughter of bright stars, both involved in the technology field. The oldest of three girls. While in the islands, enjoyed the sun, sand and surf. Her father was the family photographer and videographer. He captured the family's priceless moments. Still to this day, she loves looking back them and remembering the laughter, tears and memories.

She found the love of her life in college and they moved to Oregon to start a little family of their own. Through the modern miracle of in-vitro fertilization, they conceived their first child. Sadly, they lost him, Johnathan Francis, at 18 weeks gestation. She is donating her time to the Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep foundation. Never wanting to call it quits, they tried again and finally gained the greatest blessings in their life, two daughters. Malia Janelle and Jenna Lauren.

She lost her mother after a two year battle with gastric cancer and while pregnant with her youngest, Jenna. She is now giving her time and talent free of charge to those who would like the capture those last few moments with their loved ones. She's a promoter of hospice care.

Following in the steps of her father and with the urging of her late mother, Maricar found her calling in photography. She loves taking pictures. She loves to capture life in it's true form. Make it fun, make it fresh, make it beautiful, let's make memories.
